Welcome to the online home of Claire Allen’s piano and music theory studio, based in the village of Lea, near Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.
Whether you’re completely new to the piano or returning after a break, lessons are designed to help you feel comfortable, supported and confident from the very beginning. I teach students from beginner through to advanced level, both locally and online across the UK.
I work with a wide range of learners, including children, adult beginners and more experienced players. Some students choose to work towards graded exams (performance and/or music theory), while others learn purely for enjoyment or to support their studies at school or further education. All approaches are equally welcome.
A strong sense of wellbeing underpins my teaching. Lessons are structured and purposeful, but also relaxed and encouraging, helping you make steady progress without unnecessary pressure. Performance opportunities are available for those who would like to take part.
I have over 15 years of teaching experience and continue to undertake regular professional development in piano teaching. Alongside my music degree, I have also studied music composition at Higher Education level, which informs my approach to musical understanding and interpretation.
I hold professional piano pedagogy certification from The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), Canada, and I am a qualified piano technician (CGLI, Dip), giving me a deeper understanding of the instrument and its sound. I am also an Enhanced DBS checked teacher (Update Service) and a member of both the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) and the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA), where I am listed in the teachers’ directory.
If you’re considering lessons, you’re very welcome to get in touch to discuss your goals and how I can help.
